![]() Superman is well detailed, with recognizable facial characteristics of Brandon Routh, and enemies such as Metallo, Mongul and Riot, who aren't in the movie, are also visually appealing. Unlike the current generation versions we saw back in July, this Xbox 360 build showed solid graphic appeal. EA and Tiburon are working with Renderware 4.5 to stream in textures and details along with a pipeline made in-house. Like all huge open-world games, Superman Returns works on streaming technology. Thus, the game offers a living awareness of the city, giving players a larger perspective of the tasks at hand and an altruistic reason that connects into Superman's main raison d'etre. You must defend it from a throng of enemies that could totally destroy it. But the city of Metropolis, which Superman is sworn to defend, has a health meter. Superman takes temporary damage, as shown in an adrenaline meter in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, similar to Master Chief in Halo, but he quickly regenerates it. And unlike other super hero games in which you can't reach a height above the tallest skyscraper, with Superman Returns, you can fly 2 miles up from the ground - and fly through the entire game faster than the speed of sound. ![]() The Madden developer created 80 square miles of Metropolis in full 3D, constructed 8,000 buildings and skyscrapers, and ended up with a city that's twice the size of San Francisco, Ca. DC had never laid down a definitive grid of the city. This fact was underscored by Tiburon's staff when it asked DC for a simple map of the fictional city. Due November 20 on Xbox 360, and Xbox, PS2, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS, Superman Returns the Videogame re-creates an open-world environment of Metropolis in a way that's never been seen or experienced before.
